We’re thrilled to announce that you can download our new single ‘Break My Soul’ for free! Just subcribe at the Distinctive Records minisite. It’s the lead single from the forthcoming album and will be available on March 8th along with a brand new Hybrid remix, dub and an instrumental. The New Album Is Ready…

We’re very happy to announce that our new LP is finally finished and ready to be mastered. It’s been 2 years in the making and we’ve been solidly in the studio since last summer piecing it together. The album is called Disappear Here and is set for a worldwide release in March/April next year on Distinctive Records.

Recently we’ve been recording the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra for the album under the watchful eye of Andrew Skeet who we worked with on our second LP. The session took place at the famous Smecky Studios which is regularly used by European and American companies to record film scores and classical albums.

Musically, we think this album isn’t so much a departure from our sound, but a development and a fresh approach that has produced some of the most exciting music we’ve ever written. We’ll be posting clips of the new LP and a host of free downloads in the coming months so watch this space….

With Spring starting to masquerade as Summer, it’s now possible to venture into the studio without having to wear three jumpers and a woolly scarf, which is nice. The studio door is wide open, the birds are circling over the nearby field and the air is filled with deafening subsonic bass. It must be album time again…

Last year saw most of album 4 arrive, get frowned at, poked about and finally abandoned as it wasn’t quite hitting the spot. One year later and it’s a different story altogether. We’ve currently got about 33 individual tracks in varying states of completion, some have vocals, some have orchestration. Most have furiously heavy basslines and to us, feel more vibrant and alive than any of our previous work.

We’ve been recording drums in a rather lovely studio in the Midlands called The Priory under the watchful gaze of in house engineer Greg Chandler. Nice man. Makes Alex’s drums sound cockier than an Essex boy on a Saturday night out. Since the start of the year we’ve been recording great washes of grand pianos, swathes of acoustic guitar, barrel loads of live bass and a barrage of new vocal material from Charlotte. Chris is currently giving Future Sound Of London a run for their money in the ‘who’s got the maddest sound design’ competition and macs are creaking under the weight of all that granular shenanigans.

We’ll have some tracks to post snippets of as and when they decide to emerge from the studio, blinking into the daylight. Oh, and a deadline for completion. First week of October. No, really, this time we mean it. Thanks for reading and more updates to follow shortly.

Music For X-Men Origins : Wolverine

Hybrid have been in the studio working with Harry Gregson Williams on the score for the forthcoming X-Men film Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber. The duo have been working between LA and the UK and are currently holed up in their Derbyshire studio writing and sound designing for the score.

Mike Truman had this to say on the project :

“It’s great to be working on such an exciting film for Harry, Chris and I are both fans of the X-Men trilogy and all I can say is that this is going to be a monster of a film. It’s been really challenging and inspiring and we’re really looking forward to seeing the completed film when it gets released on May the 1st.”

The film follows the gruff, steel clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine as he strikes out on his own in this X-Men spin off series. The film is set up as an origin tale for the character and will find him sharing the screen with X-Men characters Deadpool, Gambit, John Wraith, Victor Creed/Sabretooth and Col. William Stryker. Academy Award winning director Gavin Hood (Tsotsi) films a screenplay penned by Troy scribe David Benioff (Troy). Daniel Henney and Lost’s Dominic Monaghan round out the supporting cast.

New Single : Formula Of Fear

On the 19th of September, Distinctive Records will be releasing the band’s new single ‘The Formula Of Fear’ featuring vocals from Hybrid’s own Charlotte James. The track was written last year and has been a festival favourite during Hybrid’s summer tour in 2007.

It’s now been remixed by a host of producers including Uberzone, Grafiti, Long Range, Steam Punk and Hybrid themselves. The track will be available on CD, vinyl and as a digital download from Beatport, iTunes, Amazon and Distinctive’s own website. Physical copies will be available from all good music retailers.

Choke Used On The Spirit Trailer

Forthcoming on Lions Gate this Christmas is the Frank Miller and Will Eisner movie The Spirit. Hybrid’s track Choke with John Graham was chosen to soundtrack the the trailer. Adapted from the legendary comic strip, The Spirit is a classic action adventure-romance told by genre-twister Frank Miller (creator of 300 and Sin City). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (played by Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City.

Here’s the plot synopsis by Anthony Pereyra :

Down these mean streets a man must come. A hero born, murdered, and born again. When a Rookie cop named Denny Colt returns from the beyond as The Spirit, a hero whose mission is to fight against the bad forces from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face who has other plans. He’s going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold hearted killer from the city’s rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill the masked crusader.

The film stars Gabriel Macht, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendesand Jaime King.
